Shahr is a star that, along with a companion star named Sirius A, is part of the binary Sirius system in Federation space, located only a few parsecs from Earth, in Beta Quadrant. (ST reference: Star Fleet Technical Manual)

In the aftermath of the Dominion War, Gul Madred secured mining rights to several systems, including the vicinity of Shahr. When the Cardassian Guard was dissolved in the year 2386, Madred's operation took on hundreds of former military officers as supervisors. The resurgence of True Way activity, including terrorism, gave Starfleet Intelligence the impression that Madred's mines were a center of that movement. (STO video game: Star Trek Online)
