For other uses, see Shea.

Shea was a Human man, a lieutenant who served for three years aboard the USS Enterprise in the 2260s.

History[]

In 2266, Shea began working in engineering under the supervision of Montgomery Scott.

In February 2267, nearly nine months later, Shea, Chekov and Ramirez worked the same shifts in engineering. Scott assigned Shea and Chekov to inspect the main routing conduits and monitor flux levels during the ship's travel through a spacial disruption dubbed Solid Space. Shea gave Chekov guidance and advice, as the Russian officer had only recently been assigned to the Enterprise. When Scott rigged the aft phasers to fire continuously to bleed excess power absorbed by the engines from Solid Space, Shea and Chekov monitored energy levels and were ready to cut power if needed. Afterward, Chekov left Shea to assist Scott with the emergency battery banks in the secondary hull. (TOS - New Visions comic: "Mister Chekov")

In 2268, Shea was serving in security. In 2268, he and Leslie Thompson were part of the landing party which encountered the Kelvans. Shea and Thompson were converted into porous cuboctahedrons. Rojan crushed Thompson to death, but restored Shea. (TOS episode & Star Trek 6 novelization: By Any Other Name; TOS - Waypoint comic: "Legacy")

After three years of service aboard the Enterprise, Leonard McCoy recommended him for less strenuous duty. Shea was transferred off the Enterprise, given communications training and then assigned as a communications officer at Deep Space Monitor Station 18. Shea greatly appreciated the career change, and station commander Resnick considered Shea highly capable in the position.

Later in 2268, Shea and fellow officer A'Tiak intercepted and unscrambled an unusual transmission, which seemed to have been sent more than 1,000 years ago by Kirk from the galactic core. Shea reassured Resnick that Kirk would want to know about the message and that the Enterprise crew would want to help assess the veracity of the signal. (TOS - New Visions comic: "Time's Echo")

Shea's height is that of Carl Byrd, the actor who portrayed Shea. (Carl Byrd biography at IMDB.)
