The Shedai carrier wave was a low frequency artificial signal that emanated from a Conduit on one of Jinoteur IV's moons within the Taurus Reach.

In 2265, it affected sensitive equipment in its path such as computer interfaces, sensor arrays and communication networks aboard Starfleet Starbase 47-Vanguard, the USS Lovell and the Orion merchant ship Omari-Ekon. (SCE eBook: Distant Early Warning, VAN novel: Summon the Thunder)

Starfleet officers, Lieutenants Mahmud al-Khaled and Isaiah Farber discovered that the signal was cyclical, repeating itself every 24 minutes. They likened it to a warning beacon or hail. With Captain Daniel Okagawa's approval, Lieutenant T'Laen responded to the signal, successfully terminating it and preventing further adverse affects to their systems.
