Dr. Shorak was a 23rd century Vulcan man, a noted anthropsychologist from the Federation's Xenological Research Institute.

Biography[]

He held a doctorate in psychology and was married to xenoanthropologist L'jian. He seemed undisturbed by physical contact, unlike most Vulcans.

In the early 23rd century, Shorak began harboring prejudices against Klingons after his wife's sister was captured at the Battle of Plethak.

In the year 2266, Shorak, L'jian, and Dr. Thetas Akunas arrived on Midgwis to assess whether the foraging humanoid Midgwin were sapient. During that time, Shorak kept his hair braided and grew a beard. He learned as much as he could about the consciousness web that the Midgwin formed thrice weekly, but did not join it. Like his teammates, by 2268 he appeared healthy but had grown unnaturally thin.

In 2268, he introduced a landing party from the Federation starship USS Enterprise and three new teammates to Midgwin patriarch Kailin Arxoras and Ghost Walker Yarblis Geshkerroth. During the meeting, Captain James T. Kirk permitted them a brief telepathic contact to assure them of Starfleet's good intentions.

Shortly after the Enterprises departed, a plague erupted in the nearly Walpuk Warren. Not only did the natives' shared consciousness fail to prevent deaths, but some of the sick Midgwin were being eaten by hostile licats. Shorak and his teammates accompanied Arxoras to the warren to provide whatever aid they could.

Shorak later published an article in volume 93, issue 3 of the Journal of Intercultural Contacts entitled "Telepathy Among the Midgwins". (TOS novel: Ghost-Walker)
