Silva La Forge was a Human female serving in Starfleet in the 24th century as a command division officer. She was the mother of two children: a son, Geordi and a daughter, Ariana La Forge.

She was married to Edward La Forge, an exobiologist who also served in Starfleet, although they were both often on separate assignments.

At some point, Silva served as a commanding officer on an outpost near the Romulan Neutral Zone. (TNG episode: "Imaginary Friend")

By 2370, Captain La Forge served as commanding officer of the Nebula-class USS Hera. While on a courier run to Deep Space 3 in early 2370, the Hera disappeared and Silva and the rest of the crew were officially listed as missing in action. Subsequent searches by the USS Nobel and the USS Excelsior were unable to find any trace of the Hera or her crew. (TNG episode: "Interface")

Captain La Forge and the Hera had survived, but had been transported to NGC-4244 by a phenomenon that would later be named Trans-slipstream. She was killed 18 months later in a landslide on a planet that the Hera crew had colonized. Her son, Geordi, visited her grave during his command of the USS Challenger.
