She was the grand daughter of Doctor Simon Van Gelder and followed him in the psychological field. Eventually, she became the project leader that was responsible for the creation of the first practical Holodeck for the United Federation of Planets. Originally, Van Gelder saw it as a tool for psychological conditioning and therapy for the mentally disturbed in order for them to recreate their fantasies as well as their phobias so that they could confront them in simulated conditions. She later pioneered other practical applications of this new holodeck technology. This led to it being used for training, amusement, theater as well as scientific applications.
Simone later became the head of the Holographics Universal Corporation and was in a permanent contract with Starfleet where she charged with continued research for modifying as well as improving holodeck designs that were used on Federation starships.
Doctor Van Gelder was a short wiry woman with long flaming red hair and green eyes. She stays in good physical condition by through a regime of Jiu-jitsu, swimming and fencing. The one distinguishing feature on her was a heart shaped tattoo above her heart. This was used to identify her from an imposter and confidence woman about seven years ago.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Simone was a natural linguist and was fluent in four languages as well as had an acquaintance with the vocabulary and grammar of eight others. She was also a student of clothing from various Terran historical eras and had written a monograph on emotional/psychological impact that clothing that was provided by society had on individual lives.
