Sleep is a state of natural rest common in many species.

Vulcans could modify their metabolism so that they could go several weeks without requiring sleep; however, they would eventually need to sleep for an extended period in order to recover. (TOS novel: The Entropy Effect)

The android Data did not require sleep, something which disturbed Jean-Luc Picard when the two were sharing quarters on a Klingon vessel in 2368. (TNG episode: "Unification")
