Sokath was a male individual in Tamarian culture. "Sokath" later became a word in the Tamarian language meaning "to understand".

HistoryEdit

In the year 2368, Captain Jean-Luc Picard heard the word from Dathon, during an attempt at normalizing diplomatic relations and foster mutual understanding between the United Federation of Planets and the Children of Tama initiated by Dathon on the planet El-Adrel IV. (TNG episode: "Darmok")

In an alternate timeline, Picard chose the words "...Sokath, his eyes uncovered..." to be the motto on the dedication plaque of the USS Phoenix. (DS9 - Millennium novel: The War of the Prophets)

BackgroundEdit

It is unclear if Sokath was a real person or if he was part of Tamarian mythology. It is most likely that Sokath was meant to be a Tamarian, but this was never specified in any source.
