Somalia is a country on Earth, located on the east coast of the continent of Africa. Home to the ancient Somali civilization, Somalia fell into civil war, lawlessness, and anarchy following the collapse of its central government in the early 1990s, continuing into the early 21st century.
By the 24th century, Somalia had fully recovered and become part of the African Confederation, a division of the Federation Member State of United Earth, and the Somali capital, Mogadishu, had become a prosperous metropolis. (TNG novel: Losing the Peace)
