In 1986, Sommers was serving as United States President Ronald Reagan's translator while he was in Reykjavik, Iceland meeting with Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev to discuss the reduction of nuclear weapons in their country's arsenals. (TOS novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1)
