A space buoy or marker buoy was a type of navigational marker which was placed in a particular location in space as an aid to travelers.

In 2266, Lieutenant Commander Spock theorized that Balok's cube might be a buoy, or possibly a dangerous form of "fly paper". (TOS episode: "The Corbomite Maneuver")
