In [[2275]], Purviance was assigned to [[Space Station Sigma One]] when he was killed by an [[Orion]] agent. The agent then assumed Purviance's identity and used it to infiltrate the {{USS|Enterprise|NCC-1701}} in search of the [[trans-shield anode]]. In his search, the Orion killed several members of the crew and was responsible for acts of terrorism aboard the starship before he was finally stopped by Lieutenant [[Pavel Chekov]].
