The mothership was a type of bioship in use by Species 8472. These are capable of creating active embryos and passive embryos which are mutated by the into biological space stations and ships for use in offensive maneuvers.

While often thought of as a station, these creatures are mobile ships, capable of slow movement when not producing embryos—movement faster than a typical space station resorting to the use of simple maneuvering thrusters. These creatures also have firepower comparable to a space station. These beings mutate from passive embryos and take longer to grow and mutate than other options produced by mother-class aliens.
