Starbase 2 was a Federation Starfleet starbase outpost.
Situated along the travel path between Beta Aurigae and the Camus star system, Starbase 2 established itself as a premier medical facility and biological research base, starting around the 2240s decade. (ST reference: Starfleet Operations Manual)
During the early 2240s, Commander George Kirk served as the base's chief of security. In 2243, Kirk was kidnapped from Starbase 2 at the order of Captain Robert April, who wanted his old friend Kirk to join him on a top secret mission aboard the prototype USS Enterprise. Their mission lead to an accidental crossing of the Romulan Neutral Zone while on a course to rescue a stricken Federation colony ship. (TOS novel: Final Frontier)
In 2269, Starbase 2 ordered the Enterprise to investigate recent attacks on Outpost Hadrian and Altair VII by an unknown force. The Enterprise later discovered that the alien super-computer Nagha was responsible for the attacks. (TOS short story: "The Sleeping God")
The Enterprise returned to the Starbase later that year to deliver Janice Lester for transport to Elba II and take on supplies and crew before departing en route to Beta Aurigae to rendezvous with the USS Potemkin. (TOS comic: "Captain's Personal Log")
In 2270 , the Enterprise docked at Starbase 2 for shore leave following the attempted Romulan incursion on the planet Aritani. (TOS novel: Mindshadow)
