The Starfleet Special Services, also known as the Special Security Service, was a branch in the Federation Starfleet

The Special Security Services were involved in dispatching an Evacuation Squad to Pojjanna in order to allow the Federation Diplomatic Corps members to escape the planet. During the confusion, Special Service's member Eric Stiles was captured by the natives and imprisoned for four years until he managed to escape. (TNG - Double Helix novel: Red Sector)
