Starfly One Bioprobe was a prototype ultra-deep-space scientific exploratory probe, a product of the techno-organics work of Dr. Dovan of J'naii. In 2368, Starfly malfunctioned, landing in the city of Iaron on Damiano, doing significant damage to the city and killing several dozen. Starfly was created, in part, with Dovan's own DNA, thus allowing the J'naii to get within the probe's defenses and attempt to deactivate it. Though Starfly was able to fight back against Dovan, it was weakened enough to allow for a secondary assault by Lieutenant Burgoyne 172, and then a phaser barrage by the USS Livingston.
