Stephen Garrovick (also known as David Garrovick or Tom Garrovik) was a male Human Starfleet officer in the 23rd century. He was the son of Starfleet Captain Stephen Garrovick and Anne Garrovick.

Starfleet career

As an ensign, Garrovik served as a security officer aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise under Captain James T. Kirk, along with Ensign Rizzo, a friend from Starfleet Academy. In the year 2268, Garrovick encountered the same dikironium cloud creature that killed his father and two hundred members of the USS Farragut crew years earlier, in 2257. Garrovick hesitated before shooting the creature, which then killed two other security officers. Garrovick suffered intense guilt for his inaction, but it was later determined phaser fire had no effect on the creature. Garrovick redeemed himself by setting a trap for the creature with Captain Kirk and successfully destroying it. (TOS episode: "Obsession")

According to one account, by the early 2270s decade, Garrovick had reached the rank of Lieutenant, and requested transfer back to the Enterprise after Admiral Kirk took command of the ship again. Garrovick worked under Security Chief Pavel Chekov, but was killed on Cragon V in an unsuccessful attempt to take a Klingon plasma grenade away from a young boy who had picked it up, and who was also killed when the grenade went off. (TOS novel: Home is the Hunter)

According to another account, by 2279, Garrovick reached the rank of Commander and served as first officer of the USS Gagarin under Captain Gralev. In that year, the Gagarin was attacked by Klingons, and Garrovick was one of 28 crewmembers taken prisoner. Garrovick spent the next eight years in a prison facility on planet Pao'la, working as a slave laborer in that world's dilithium mines. He was finally rescued in 2287 by Captain Kirk, with the assistance of Klingon Captain Koloth. (TOS novel: In the Name of Honor)

Garrovick was promoted to commodore by 2289, accompanying the USS Enterprise-A on a covert mission investigating extra-dimensional parasites near the Klingon-Romulan border. (TOS comic: "Debt of Honor")

Appendices

Background

Garrovick was not given a first name in his single on-screen appearance. The first name Stephen is the same as the actor who played him, Stephen BrooksMA.

The comic Debt of Honor consistently misspells his name as Garrovik.
