Professor Stephen William Hawking was a noted human scientist who lived in the 20th and 21st centuries. He was most famous for developing several theories involving black holes, as well as performing all of his work while suffering with a severe neurological disease that had him almost completely paralyzed.
In 2258, in an alternate reality, James T. Kirk named Hawking among the famous physicists of the past. (TOS novelization: Star Trek) In 2369, Lieutenant Commander Data created a holographic version of Hawking to participate in a poker game with Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton, and Data himself. (TNG episode: "Descent, Part I").
