"The Tale of the Three Princes of Serendip" was an ancient Persian story about the three sons of the king of Serendip (the Persian name for Sri Lanka).

Lieutenant Diver told this tale to fellow Starfleet officers Faisal Prince, Rustam Kavousi, and Ozmani while stranded in the desert of planet Obsidian. (TOS novel: Vulcan's Forge)
