Small C? Edit

Why is century written with a small c? --Archimedean 23:43, May 8, 2010 (UTC)

Because that's how we write it here. Does someone you know write it differently? -- Captain MKB 00:00, May 9, 2010 (UTC)
In English writing, century is usually capitalized when used as part of the name of a specific one: the 20th Century vice the century starting in 1901. --Archimedean 00:31, May 9, 2010 (UTC)
Well, I've seen it both ways, so i can say to you this isn't a hard-and-fast rule in publications, but the tie-breaker here (besides the fact that wiki formatting works best when defaulting to lowercase as-often-as-possible) is that Wikipedia does not capitalize the century names, so we do not either. -- Captain MKB 02:52, May 9, 2010 (UTC)
Not that it's the end-all, but Wikipedia has it lower case here (but a few capitals make it into the page's text). Also, a century is a unit, so it's the same thing as writing "six miles" or "thirty knots"; none of those are typically capitalized... --Savar 13:37, May 10, 2010 (UTC)
