I cut the following from the main article, as it doesn't seem quite relevant. A. Uhura is apparently a 23rd century Starfleet officer, and "astronaut" has always struck me as being a somewhat archaic term when used within the Trek universe.

The term starman was also used. Alhamisi Uhura was a starman (TOS novel The Starless World.
