Sourcing?[]
Can anyone source this?
- The Cheyenne class was developed during the 2340s as a fast light cruiser concept. Production was accelerated after early contact with the Borg and tension with the Romulan Empire. However after Wolf 359 and intial skirmishes with the dominion, the Cheyenne class was found to be too light of a craft for stout combat roles. The remaining Cheyennes now serve on patrol and scouting missions.

Google only turns up one link: the text above was cut-and-pasted from BattleClinic, a game mod site. Seems to be a summation of the background from the fan-published "U.S.S. Cheyenne Operations Manual". NOD (Not Our Department).--Emperorkalan 13:21, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Saucer Separation[]
Markonian is wrong here. This ship being able to use saucer separation in STO is not evidence it can do it in Beta-canon. In the TFO/Mission in STO where that happens, you're not technically flying those ships. You're flying your normal ship with a 'holographic layer' making you look like you're flying one of the Wolf 359 ships. So you could technically be flying Borg Type 3 ship, with all the abilities that ship could use, but you'd look like a Cheyenne/Niagara/Nebula/Constellation. If you go into the mission with a ship that has the saucer seperation ability equipped you can cause the animation to happen, but it doesn't do anything. The saucer doesn't spawn, the animation resets and you're back in one piece. The same thing can happen if you're a Prometheus class with the MVAM ability. If you're holographically disguised as a Nebula class and use it, the Saucer and Mission pod will both fly off then reset. You can use every ability of the ship your character currently flies. So you could be a Jem'hadar captain and have your Jem'hadar wingmen spawn, or a carrier that can launch Borg probes or Klingon fighters. The mission does not give you any extra abilities for the ship class you're disguised as. Tuskin38 (talk) 16:26, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
