Talk:Dai Mehkan

Back to page

Mehkan's article here says he was chief of staff, but he is listed in the template for C-in-Cs -- which was he? -- Captain MKB 05:04, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Different terminology, but apparently the same position. --TimPendragon 08:29, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
But some sources migh differ. Perhaps, to be absolutely clear, we should avoid placing such an assumption in the article, and only list the title he was referred to in the actual licensed source. -- Captain MKB 12:39, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Then that would apply to Harry Morrow, too. He was only ever referred to as "Commander, Starfleet," but from context, it's clear that he was C-In-C. From the context of The Empty Chair, it's the same for Mehkan. And according to the Commander-in-Chief of the Federation Starfleet article here, Chief of Staff is an accepted term. I believe (but might be misremembering) that it was used by Franz Joseph in the Star Fleet Technical Manual for what is essentially the same position. --TimPendragon 19:16, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
I missed the context that specified Morrow as C-in-C -- I saw him giving orders but being referred to by a different title (Commander-Starfleet) than C-in-C -- how is that the same? Are you assuming he was the one person in charge of Starfleet, even though no one said anything like that in the film?.
And given that there are a few sources that actually specify they are different (Commanding Admiral subordinate to Chief of Staff in TOS novel: Triangle, for example), should we really be assuming they are the same without any evidence supporting it, besides assumption and interpretations of context that others might miss? -- Captain MKB 19:47, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
