Talk:Duffy's Tavern

Do we know for a fact that Dave Galanter was making an allusion to an old radio show? --Seventy 22:49, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Not just "an" old radio show, but one of the classics of the medium (not that I've heard more than a few bits on a "Golden Days of Radio" program). OK, perhaps its excessive presumption on my part, but it is a significant reference. Not having read the story I'm a little hesitant to contact Dave directly to ask him, but here's his website: [1]. Ask away! Was it the radio show, or just a "classic bar" name?--Emperorkalan 23:13, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Huh??? I'm supposed to ask the author whether a claim you're presenting about his intentions (without reading his story, no less) is accurate or not? Sorry, no -- if you have nothing to back up what you've written, I'm going to ask that you delete it. --Seventy 23:38, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Y'know, I really don't care about this enough to get into a "chicken" argument about it, so it's gone, but a little note about American 20th century pop culture: calling a bar "Duffy's Tavern" is like naming a starship "Enterprise" or making someone "an offer he can't refuse". It's an icon so recognizable the real surprise would be if it's NOT.--Emperorkalan 02:28, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well you could stick a presumably/probably/likely at the front of your factoid maybe? -- 8of5 02:48, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
