Talk:Encounter at Farpoint
Back to page
This blurb seems to indicate that Farpoint Station is on Cygnus IV rather than Deneb IV. Imzadi indicates the same thing. Are these somehow consistent? Perhaps Deneb and Cygnus are the same world? Or is the novel just inconsistent with the episode (or the blurb)? Jdvelasc 00:42, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- Imzadi is inconsistant on a lot of things. For one, it gives EaF a season 2 Stardate.--Turtletrekker 01:12, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- It's probably confusion stemming from the fact that the real "Deneb" is also known as "Alpha Cygni." --TimPendragon 01:27, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Copied summary
Edit
- How come it's permissable to copy an entire summary from wikipedia? I copied two lines of text from MA and was chewed out for being unoriginal.
- Shouldn't this be removed immediately? -- Captain M.K.B. 18:05, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- With no answers here in the last 24 hours, I am suggesting this practice be stopped.. -- Captain M.K.B. 18:21, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

- I've never liked the practice, but never the less am willing to have a go at justifying it. A summary of an episode, from one place or the other is going to be pretty much the same (except the version here should also have additional info from the novelization, but on general principle I shall continue). It is not the same to copy a universally similar summary as it is to copy say an article about peanuts, because the peanuts article at wikipedia will address peanuts from all angles in the real world. A peanuts article on memory alpha will focus solely on peanut references in canon Star Trek, a peanut article here would have to focus on peanut references from the entire trekverse. When the idea got batted around I insisted we have the template to identify what is a copy and encourage replacements. -- 8of5 18:56, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- Having supplied a complete summary of the novelization, I have now deleted the Wikipedia summary. However, anyone who thinks it should have been retained as a brief overview can revert my edit. Gildir 16:29, November 7, 2009 (UTC)
Odds & ends
Edit
Besides some confusion in recent edits citing this novelization as a source for Excelsior class specifications, there is a Leonard McCoy citation that this novel places him as a crewmember on the Enterprise-B. Can anyone illuminate this? -- Captain MKB 15:01, January 25, 2010 (UTC)
- Yes apologies, I was sure that it explicitly referenced that the Excelsior-class could separate, when it only referred to the Hood and the Yorktown had the capability, which could indicate that some Excelsiors had the capability. As for McCoy, the novelization states that he served aboard three Enterprises before being promoted to Admiral. Obviously, the first two are the 1701 and the 1701-A, but the third could have been either the 1701-B or 1701-C, though 1701-B seems more likely. --The Doctor 23:34, January 25, 2010 (UTC)
