Hunter was in the same Starfleet Academy class as James T. Kirk in 2250, suggesting that she was born somewhere around 2233 (TOS novel: The Entropy Effect). She was a captain of her own Starfleet ship in about 2248, in time to meet a young Hikaru Sulu (TLE novel: Excelsior: Forged in Fire). She must have had the most awesome career in Starfleet history, having been a Captain two years before she attended the Academy.
