Talk:Krissten Richter
Back to page
I removed the image after coresponding with Krissten's co-creator Andy Mangels. Krissten is supposed to human and Starfleet, but the comics artist portrayed her as Bajoran militia, so as far as Andy was concerned, the woman in the image was not Krissten. Hence the Federation emblem.
- But does the comic call the person Krissten? If so, we should have her picture and a note at the bottom, because things in the games and novels supercede the authors original intents, if only because their much easier to confirm, and it's what people will assume upon first seeing it. (ie: if someone's looking for the Krissten character, and the book calls her one thing, but the authors 'intent' was for her to be something else, how would the person know that?) I'm also interested in where this custom of putting emblems on character pages started. - Lieutenant Ayala 06:37, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- I think the custom of putting emblems on character pages stems from the fact that Web sites like Wikis are visual mediums, and that, as such, having something beyond text enhances the experience of the page. -- Sci 19:17 19 April 2006 UTC
- In this instance, Bashir calls out to a "Krissten" in one panel, and in the next panel, the Bajoran nurse is seen. The character had no dialogue or interaction, so when they brought the character into the Mission Gamma novels, Mangels and Martin decided that the Bajoran nurse wasn't Krissten afterall. For the record, Krissten is human and Starfleet in the novels.
- Krissten's only real reason for even existing in the comic was to be Deputy Etana Kol's girlfriend. Krissten's only other appearance in the comic was in a long shot of the Promenade in which Etana and Krissten (in a Starfleet uniform) are holding hands. Apparently Marvel didn't like the idea of portraying a Lesbian relationship, and had the characters convieniently covered up by a word balloon.
- As for the emblem thing, Sci is correct. This just as much a visual medium as text, so we should take advantage of it and make our articles more pleasing to the eye. The Federation, Starfleet, Klingon, Romulan, ect; emblems are already part of our database, why not take advantage of them? --Turtletrekker 23:07, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- Whoops, I added her picture without looking at this discussion thread, but now that I have read it, I have to say that I think that we should have her picture here. If someone strongly objects I think they should just add a note about why she appears Bajoran. --Jdvelasc 06:49, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
