Talk:New Orleans

Deep Space Nine was off the air in 2005 and 2008. How can episodes reference Hurricanes that happened in those years? Also, at least one episode of The Next Generation referenced Earth's weather net. It is not exclusive to New Orleans. – AT2Howell 02:08, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- Good question. Also, is that how you spell Faye--Long Live the United Earth 20:13, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- I think the national weather service puts out their lists of named hurricanes years in advance. I can't recall HOW far in advance, though. See Wikipedia... --Captain Savar 01:33, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
Would that be an alternate timeline, or a possible future? – AT2Howell 03:24, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hm.. none of the sources currently cited in the article mention any hurricanes, alternate timeline or not. -- Captain MKB 03:45, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- I meant the reference to the future Jake Sisko. – AT2Howell 15:02, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- It was an alternate timeline. -- Captain MKB 03:41, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Never mind. For some reason I was thinking of another "future" Jake (the one in ENT novel: The Good That Men Do). I just noticed the reference. Yes, I'm an idiot. – AT2Howell 14:59, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

This is only a work of fiction . Taking it to such serious measures defeats the purpose. Adding a little "real-world" headline to the "Trek" timeline makes for better enjoyment and imparts a perspective for an audience not necessarily "Trekkers". Think back to the 1996 episdoe when VOY was in modern L.A. Khan's orbiting satellites may have detected a ship and then Voyager's shields safely deflect the warheads-but didn't. The writers didn't want to get slowed down. But, on ENT; Archer (a New Yorker, even) clearly saw Daniels' September 11th recordings. And the reptile Xindi were mistaken for terrorists, when they time travelled to 2004. Gary 7, J.R. Rasmussen "Visit to a Weird Planet"...the list goes on. (by the way, Internet sources have a brilliant "history" of how the real life Iraq/Afghanistan wars rolled over into the Eugenics. Another has Berlinghoff Rasmussen as Archer's roomate at MIT, before fleeing the 2100s when talk grew about a temporal cold war.) None of it is to be considered canon, only as "what if" short stories. Same as when Marvel characters were introduced into the Trek Universe.
- Some of this is relevant to the wiki -- we'll include the things you list that were used in episodes, movies, comics, books and games. But we're not here to copy the past few years' newspapers of current events into these articles, so if it can't be cited to such a work, we'll not be keeping the info, k? -- Captain MKB 12:52, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
