Thought: We have (at least) two conflicting sets of planetary classifications, the current system gets round this by having two pages for each letter that conflicts. So we have Class A geothermal planet and Class A gas giant, which also means we have Class H geothermal planet and Class J gas giant. Star Charts gives us a few more planet types and every type of planet from Worlds of the Federation fits into one of Star Charts more developed system. Star Charts also gives them descriptive names, which we currently use to disambiguate when there's a conflict.

We can work with the current system just fine, but it does mean for every type of planet with a conflicting letter we get two pages for that type of planet. So how about we make the descriptive name the driver here, rather than the arbitrary and conflicting letter system; making one page for each type of planet, with both conflicting classifications noted on that page. So for instance a page for a desert planet, noting it as class H or G, with the class H and G pages working as simple disambiguation pages, meaning the planet page itself can be fully developed to tell us all about desert planets, and not take up most of the article explaining conflicting classification systems. I think it would be a much simpler way to handle the information and describe each type of planet, as determined by their characteristics, rather than their letters. --8of5 20:45, June 25, 2010 (UTC)
