Talk:Resistance (novel)

AS T'Lana is the new regular counselor and is considered one of the new "Main" characters (ala Elias Vaughn for DS9 and Jarem Kaz in VOY), perhaps she should be listed under "regulars" instead of "others". – Turtletrekker 00:32, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Actually, this has kinda been bugging me for a while, but... on TV there are "regular characters", which are defined more by pay and union rules than the realities of storytelling. In prose, "regular" means even less -- who are the "regulars" in Mere Anarchy? I say remove "Regulars" in favor of something more descriptive, like "Starfleet" or "Enterprise Crew". --Seventy 03:00, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
I agree -- i mean the only stories with defined regulars are those from TV -- the rest we would just be "making up" as we go along. is Piper, Sarda or Scanner a 'regular' in "Dreadnought!" ? how is that regular? they only appeared in two novels ever. as opposed to Boyajian, a minor extra who appeared in several TNG, DS9 and New Frontier novels, which is much more "regular", when you look at the definition of the word "regular" -- Captain MKB 03:28, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
It varies from story to story, but yes there are certainly times when it would more appropriate to replace the regulars sub-listing with something more specific to the story. Editors just have to use there best judgement as to when and how divide lists. I’d say for most non-novel stories regulars, others and referenced is ideal as the majority of stories feature the usual series cast and a handful of guest characters. Novels more often require more creative division as they tend to have a lot more characters. --8of5 03:39, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
