Talk:Shimizu Hana

Having re-read the articles on Demora and Shimizu here, each saying either "paternal" or "son", I'm perfectly happy to see someone remove Kalea's name on Hikaru's articles, but please remember that Saraoni ought to stay for now, if for no other reason than that Giri has the name Hatoyama in it. - According to Who's Who in Star Trek, Momiko Sulu is this woman's (married) name. -- Captain MKB 15:07, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- Just a comment on the wording of the contradiction note here -- does a short story necessarily "override" another source? Isn't this playing favorites? -- MKB
- Indeed, something noting an alternate interpretation, or something to that effect, would be more appropriate. At most the 2:1 weighting in numbers of references could be noted to play up the significance of this interpretation, but that still doesn't stop the other existing. --8of5 03:00, July 1, 2010 (UTC)
- There's also a conciliatory possibility, where it could be interpreted that one or more of the family or given names could be less commonly used or be assumed as part of her growth as a person (like a person who assumes a common family name despite belonging to a branch of the family with a less recognizable name, or a hyphenated name that was dropped or assumed later in life for whatever reason. It would take a closer look at the exact statements in the sources to determine what context each different name should be taken. -- Captain MKB 02:00, July 3, 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good to me, to add another ingrediant to the pot Star Trek II Biographies lists Sulu's mother as Kalea Graef Hatoyama. --8of5 01:28, July 4, 2010 (UTC)
- .. bringing the 'Hatoyama' references another citation, as that is also her family name in TOS comic: "Giri". Thank you for finding that one, I've never had a copy of Rotsler's book. -- Captain MKB 01:43, July 4, 2010 (UTC)
