Tiberius Samuel Kirk?[]

Last year's film establishes his name as Tiberius, but the novelization of Star Trek: The Motion Picture includes references to his name as Samuel. The narration indicates that Admiral Kirk learned a certain expletive "from Grandfather Samuel", and Admiral Kirk's Preface states that Tiberius was the Roman emperor who fascinated "my grandfather Samuel".

In other instances, we've reconciled non-canonical given names that conflict with later (or earlier) canon as middle names (J. Fiona McKenzie, for instance). Should we do the same here? The inference seems somewhat aided by George Kirk's reaction to Winona's suggestion that they name James for Tiberius in the film; it's entirely possible that Tiberius Kirk chose to go by a name other than his given one. --Columbia clipper 21:17, July 24, 2010 (UTC)
