Starfleet Edit

According to the "Supreme Court", Winona was aboard the Kelvin as a member of Starfleet, and was still in Starfleet, at least in the alternate reality created by Nero, when her son crashed her husband's car into a quarry (this is why she was off-planet at the time). I'd like to try to reconcile this with the information given in the earlier novels as much as possible, but don't have any knowledge of the books themselves.
