Tarett IV was a distant Federation colony located in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants. It had an intensive archeological excavation and undocumented historical archives. It was the first Starfleet assignment for Janice Eardman. There is an orbital base above Tarett IV that William T. Riker could have accepted an assignment on as an Ensign just out of Starfleet Academy, but he opted for starship duty instead.
