In 2153, a Tarkalean freighter was attacked and boarded by the Borg. The Earth starship Enterprise responded to the distress call and discovered that two Tarkalean crewmembers that had been assimilated by the Borg. (ENT episode: "Regeneration")

The Tarkaleans were well known for for their special blend of Tarkalean tea. (DS9 episodes: "Past Prologue", "Trials and Tribble-ations")

The Tarkalean unit of currency was known as the notch-rock. (DS9 novel: Avatar, Book One)
