Tarod Sector

Sector 30.

The Tarod sector, also designated as Sector 30, was a sector of space in the Iota Pavonis sector block of the Beta Quadrant, on the border between the Federation and the Romulan Star Empire.

Details and historyEdit

This sector contains several star systems and space stations. This area contained a portion of the Romulan Neutral Zone, including Earth Outpost Stations 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 and a portion of Romulan space including the capital planet of the Star Empire, Romulus. Tarod sector is adjacent to sector Z-6 and the Devron sector. Sector Z-6 leads to a section of the Eridan Belt, an expanse of space located outside of the Federation and Romulan Star Empire, in the direction of the galaxy's core. (STO video game: Star Trek Online)

Stars in and around this sector included Tarod, Cheron (Omicron Gruis), Cruses (Zeta Gruis), Iota Pavonis, Menket (Theta Centauri) and Nimbus. (ST reference: Star Charts)

Since this sector's appearance was on a two-dimensional projection, it is not clear whether these locations were within this cubicsector, or if they were above or below it.

In 2266 the ChR Gal Gath'thong launched from Romulus and traveled along the Neutral Zone in the sector on a mission to test the Federation's defenses. The Bird-of-Prey was eventually destroyed by the USS Enterprise inside the Neutral Zone in the sector. (ST reference: Star Charts; TOS episode: "Balance of Terror")

In 2364 the sector was the site of an early Borg incursion into the Alpha Quadrant. The Borg destroyed five Federation outposts and a number of Romulan installations on worlds along the Neutral Zone. The attack prompted the Romulans to emerge from a period of isolation to confront the Federation about the attacks. It was not until first contact with the Borg a year later that the Federation was able to identify the Borg as the culprits. (TNG episodes: "The Neutral Zone", "Q Who?")
