Tau Centauri was a class A2V light blue star located near the space claimed by the Federation government in the galaxy's Beta Quadrant. The star was located in proximity to Iota Crucis, Gamma Centauri and Deep Space 6, near the Zakdorn system and an arm of the Romulan Star Empire. Tau Centauri was known to Humans as being visible from Earth in the Centaurus constellation, about 131 light-years distant. In the 24th century, there were no known inhabitants within the bounds of Tau Centauri's star system. (ST reference: Star Charts)
