In an alternate universe, Tharlas was a male Andorian security officer. In 2264, he held the rank of colonel, and was assigned to head the security forces at the Babel summit between the Interstellar Coalition and United Earth that year. Tharlas was in charge of the investigation into the disappearance of T'Pol. (Star Trek: Myriad Universes novel: A Less Perfect Union)

No "real world" counterpart for this character has been established. It is unclear which of the two masculine Andorian genders Tharlas was.
