The concept of removing or transporting the whole of a Vulcan's consciousness (as a katra) is referred to in TOS movie: Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, TOS novel: Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and ENT episodes: "The Forge", "Awakening", "Kir'Shara". This comic is unique in describing the process performed with mechanical means rather than a mind meld, although it presents a good reasoning as to why the process was discontinued, seeing as it damaged the minds of those affected. The "bottles" used to transport the emotional Vulcan minds could be seen as being developed along a similar line of thought as the katric ark shown in other works.
