The Louvre Museum was one of the largest and most celebrated museums of art on Earth. It was housed in the Louvre Palace on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, and as of the early 21st century, held nearly 35,000 pieces, some dating back to the 6th millennium BCE.

Among the artists whose works were displayed at the Louvre were Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.
