[edit] Summary
Responding to a message from the Oberth-class science vessel, USS Tsiolkovsky, which is monitoring the collapse of a supergiant star, the crew of the USS Enterprise-D discover that the crew of the Tsiolkovsky had killed themselves after contracting an unknown virus.
Soon after, the virus makes it aboard the Enterprise and the crew start to act like they are intoxicated and lose their inhibitions. To make matters worse, Wesley Crusher takes control of engineering and disables the ship's warp engines by removing the isolinear chips, meaning that the Enterprise can't escape from the exploding supergiant.
Thankfully, a cure for the virus is found when it was discovered that it was a variant of the Psi 2000 virus that had been contracted by the crew of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), 98 years earlier. Together, Crusher and Lieutenant Commander Data are able to reinsert the chips and repair the ship's engines in time to escape.
