"The Raven" was a famous poem written by American poet Edgar Allan Poe in the mid-19th century.

Upon taking control of the USS Enterprise in 2266, Charles Evans forced Lieutenant Commander Spock to recite the first two lines of the poem. (TOS episode: "Charlie X")

Throughout the mid-24th century, Linda Addison used a key word in the poem as part of the security lock-out on her quarters in the form of "Poe Alpha Nevermore". (TNG - Slings and Arrows eBook: A Sea of Troubles)
