The Taming of the Shrew was a comedy by human playwright William Shakespeare. It was one of his earlier plays, probably penned in 1594. In the mid 20th century, it served as the basis of a musical play, Kiss Me, Kate.

In 2375, a production of The Taming of the Shrew was planned aboard the USS Enterprise-E. During their undercover mission to Darona that year, Data complimented Deanna Troi's "performance" in evading a Jem'Hadar patrol, and suggested she would make a fine Kate in the play.
