The Void was a region of space in the Delta Quadrant, perhaps 9 light-years across, which was shielded off from the rest of the galaxy by a subspace barrier. The void was (seemingly) entirely empty.

History and specifics[]

Voyager The Void

USS Voyager attempting to escape the Void.

Matter was sucked into the void periodically by vortexes which opened and closed sporadically. Many spacecraft were engulfed in such a way, and were forced to live in the void, having no way to escape.

Members of Fantome's species were born in the Void. They were nomads and lived aboard the various ships.

All the stranded inhabitants of the Void became accustomed to preying on each other-- and on new arrivals to the Void-- to survive.

General Valen and his crew were stranded in the anomaly in the year 2372.

The USS Voyager was sucked into the void in 2377. At the time, Voyager detected 150 ships inside the Void, of which only 29 remained active. Unable to make its escape, Captain Kathryn Janeway began an alliance with other inhabitants of the void; together. The captain's coalition was able to escape. (VOY episode: "The Void")

Starfleet Command included the Void on a map in 2379 in preparation for Starfleet to return to the Delta Quadrant. (Star Trek Adventures module: Delta Quadrant Sourcebook)
