Trelane and Gothos
Edit
In 2267, Ross was assigned to the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. She became worried when Kirk was abducted to the planet Gothos by Trelane, a member of the Q Continuum, and told the captain as much when he was briefly rescued by Commander Spock. Moments later, she and several other members of the Enterprise's bride crew were abducted to Gothos for Trelane's further amusement. (TOS episode: "The Squire of Gothos")

Added by Columbia clipperTrelane was particularly interested in Ross, whom he compared to Helen of Troy, quoting from Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus. While Lieutenant Nyota Uhura played the piano with the benefit of skill imparted by Trelane, Ross become his unwilling dancing partner. Within moments, the Q transformed her Starfleet uniform into an ornate panniered 18th century flowered silk gown. (TOS episode & novelization: The Squire of Gothos)
In a gambit to overcome Trelane, Kirk pretended jealousy over the Q's affections for Ross, and challenged him to a duel for the right to show her romantic attention. The Gambit partially succeeded; Kirk destroyed the mechanical mirror Trelane was using to maintain the environment on Gothos, and the captive Enterprise crew were released, but the Q declared that he would have revenge on them, particularly Kirk. Ross shortly resumed her duties, still wearing the ball gown, before requesting permission to quickly change. (TOS episode: "The Squire of Gothos")
The ship was soon chased by Trelane and Gothos, but Kirk, who beamed down to the planet alone and demanded that the Q forswear vengeance on the Enterprise and the rest of its crew, including Ross. Trelane sentenced Kirk to death, and attempted to take his revenge, before being thwarted by two more Q - his parents. (TOS episode: "The Squire of Gothos")
The Refit Enterprise
Edit

Added by Columbia clipperBy 2273, Ross had risen to the rank of chief petty officer, and was assigned aboard the Enterprise as an engineer. During the V'Ger crisis, she heard Captain Kirk issue Starfleet Order 2005, an order to allow the ship's matter and anti-matter reserves to mix uncontrolled, which would destroy the Enterprise. She asked Commander Montgomery Scott, the ship's chief engineer, why the self-destruct had been commanded, and whether it would successfully destroy V'Ger. (TOS novel: Ex Machina, TOS movie: The Motion Picture)
Several weeks later, she detected a trace impurity in the Enterprise's dilithium matrix, which could have resulted in decreased engine performance when traveling above warp 7. A large part of the ship's engine room was briefly dismantled to correct the problem. (TOS novel: Ex Machina)
