Theta 116 VIII (also called Theta VIII) was a Class K planet located somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants. It was the eighth planet in orbit of the Theta 116 star system, with an atmosphere of nitrogen, methane and liquid neon. As of 2037, it had no detectable surface water, wind speeds of up to 320 meters per hour and an average temperature of 300 degrees below zero.
In 2365, Theta 116 VIII was investigated the by the Federation starship Enterprise-D after having traced the ancient NASA spacecraft ESS Charybdis there. On a plane of frozen methane, an unknown alien intelligence had recreated a 20th century hotel-casino from an onboard novel called Hotel Royale. This was for the benefit of the craft's only surviving crewmember, Colonel Stephen G. Richey. (TNG episode: "The Royale"; Star Trek Magazine Issue 162: "Blast Off!")
