Thomas Jackson McCoy (known as "T.J.") was the Chief of Medicine at Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta in the 2220s. He was the grandfather of legendary Starfleet officer Leonard McCoy. (TOS novel: The Final Reflection)

It is possible that T.J. McCoy's middle name is taken from actor DeForest Kelley's birth name: Jackson DeForest Kelley.
