Thomas Jefferson (13 April 1743 - 4 July 1826) was a Human who served as the third President of the United States of America in the 19th century.
- He was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence.
Legacy[]
Years after his service to the United States, Jefferson's name was still revered and memorable by the 23rd century. When James T. Kirk discovered that a Rey individual was named "Tom", he asked if it was after Tom Sawyer or Tom Jefferson, knowing the Rey to have developed a fascination for Human culture. Around the same time, Kirk's USS Enterprise participated in a starship race course alongside a museum ship named Thomas Jefferson. (TOS novel: The Great Starship Race)
The Mount Rushmore National Memorial park located on Earth in South Dakota bears the likenesses of five of America's most memorable Presidents, including Jefferson, carved out of the granite in the mountain. (TOS novelization: Star Trek V: The Final Frontier)
There is also a landmark on Earth, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Rose Garden, named for him. (DS9 novelization: The Search)
The USS Yamato had a dedication plaque bearing a motto attributed to Jefferson: "I have sworn eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man". (ST reference: The Star Trek Encyclopedia)
