Time travel pod

A time travel pod in a cave.

The time-pod was a 26th century Federation shuttlecraft type, a timeship pod in academic service in the 2540s[1] decade. (TNG episode: "A Matter of Time")

It was also known as a time travel pod. (CCG set: Premiere, card: "Time Travel Pod")

History and specifics[]

The time-pod was a small, angular spacecraft with chairs for two people. It lacked windows. Both interior and hull were covered in iridescent, multifaceted panels. When the rearward hatch was closed, the interior was impervious to scans based on 24th century Starfleet technology. The entrance hatch was located at the rear. The vessel tapered towards the bow. (TNG episode: "A Matter of Time")

Small ships and shuttlecraft of similar size and shape were active in the 2360s and 2370s decade, including the 3.5 meter-long Klingon Toron-class shuttle. (Shuttle Set Issue 32: "Klingon Toron Class Shuttle")

Professor Dominic Kent was a time traveling Human historian in the 26th century who operated such a time-pod. (TNG episode: "A Matter of Time")

In the year 2544, this time-pod travelled to New Jersey on Earth in the 22nd century. (Last Unicorn RPG module: All Our Yesterdays: The Time Travel Sourcebook)

The New Jersey inventor Berlinghoff Rasmussen stole Professor Kent's time-pod in 2161 and blackmailed the historian in providing access to the ship's systems. Rasmussen kept Kent from retrieving medicine from his time-pod, causing Kent's death from an untreated illness. (TNG novel: Indistinguishable from Magic)

Rasmussen intended to use Kent's time-pod to visit the future, steal its technology and position himself as successful inventor. Aboard the USS Enterprise-D in 2368, he presented himself as a time-traveling historian. The crew uncovered Rasmussen's attempt to steal their technology and kidnap Lieutenant Commander Data. While Rasmussen remained in Federation custody, the time-pod returned to the 22nd century. (TNG episode: "A Matter of Time")

Alternate timelines[]

Vandar's time-pod

Vandar's time-pod in the 2260s.

In an alternate reality, Vandar was a Human Immortal born in the Stone Age on Earth, living through countless centuries. In this reality, Vandar had become leader of an empire — the Imperial Planets, which expanded throughout the galaxy by the 23rd century. According to Vandar, various time-travellers attempted to subvert him, and his palace contained a collection of time machines. Vandar's time-pod was a vessel of this type. In the 2260s, Vandar showed his collection to a group of USS Enterprise officers and Legion of Super-Heroes personnel. (TOS - Legion of Super-Heroes comic: "Issue 5")
