Tranquility Base was a historical landmark with an associated Federation shipyard located in the Sea of Tranquility area of Luna.
History and specifics[]
On 20 July 1969, Tranquility Base was the landing site for NASA's Apollo 11 mission, where Humans first stepped foot on Earth's moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin explored the site, collecting rock samples and conducting experiments. By the 2260s, the historical site had become Tranquility Park, a resort and park, a popular attraction among students and newly married couples. A transparent aluminum wall separated the artifacts and a viewing area at the park, with the lunar module still exposed to the vacuum of space. Leonard McCoy visited the resort in 2269 and chatted with Glynis, a nine-year-old girl who was able to recite facts about the mission. (TOS novel: Prime Directive)
On 20 July 2269, 300th anniversary celebrations of the Apollo 11 mission included plans for the Enterprise space shuttle to join a parade flyover of the landing site. (TOS novel: A Flag Full of Stars)
24th century[]
By the 24th century, an amusement park was located at Tranquility Base. In 2374, Jake Sisko and Nog owned a holosuite program that simulated the park. (DS9 - Millennium novel: The Fall of Terok Nor)
By this time, the landing site had been incorporated into the UFP Aerospace Museum-Smithsonian Annex. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)
Jean-Luc Picard experienced three days in a holodeck simulation of the Apollo flight and landing at Tranquility Base. (TOS novel: Captain's Blood)
On 20 July 2369, 400th anniversary celebrations of the Apollo 11 mission culminated in the landing of an Apollo replica one mile from Tranquility Base. More than 100,000 spectators watched the event from a nearby pressurized stadium. (Star Trek Magazine Issue 162: "Star Trek Spaceflight Chronology")
